Cork:

  • One obtains it from the bark of cork oak tress.
  • One can peel these barks after every 9 to 14 years.
  • One first cleans the bark then bakes it.
  • At the time of baking process, the natural resin content in the cork comes out.
  • Then this natural resin further binds the material into a homogenous mass.

Properties of Cork:

  2. It is light in weight.
  3. Cork is Scratch resistant, fire resistant, sound absorbent.
  4. It is resilient and elastic.
  5. Has heat insulating qualities.
  6. It is non-slippery and porous.
  7. Heat and moisture does not attack it.
  8. One can cut it with ease.
  9. Lastly, It is good insulator of electricity and sound.

Uses:

Following are the various uses:

  • Firstly, One can use it to make the tile or carpet.
  • One uses it to prepare sheet and boards, bottle stoppers.
  • One can use it in floor covering for places such as Churches, theatres etc.
  • Tiles made from it are fairly elastic, durable and sound proof.
  • One uses it as covering for walls as well as floors.
  • It is based products are used in broadcasting stations, theares, libraries, art galleries etc.
  • Lastly, Cork floors can be maintained with sealers and protective coatings to avoid soiling.
