A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening killed at least eight people and injured over two dozen, jolting the heart of the capital. The blast occurred in a slow-moving Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort Metro crossing, triggering fires in nearby vehicles and shattering glass fronts. Within minutes, fire tenders, police, and emergency services reached the scene, and the entire area was cordoned off. Investigators from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) are examining evidence to determine the cause and whether any explosives were planted. Security has been tightened across the city, with alerts issued to key installations, metro stations, and crowded areas.

What should the public know and do in a situation like this?

It’s important not to believe in any rumours or share any unverified information and footage.

Stay Alert, Not Alarmed:

Stay calm and aware of your surroundings. Avoid panic buying or spreading fear through social media. Follow only official updates from Delhi Police, DDMA, or credible news outlets.

Report Suspicious Activity:

If you notice unattended bags, abandoned vehicles, or unusual movement, immediately call 112 or inform the nearest police personnel.

Keep Commute Flexible:

Expect tighter checks at metro stations and traffic bottlenecks due to enhanced security. Leave early and carry valid identification.

Be Responsible Online:

Avoid forwarding unverified videos or messages. Misinformation can do more harm than good and fuel panic.
