Organisations are setup to achieve some goals. In most case the goals are to make profit. But some organisations are not motivated by profit. Take the examples of non-government organisations (NGOs), army, or social services activities. Although they are not driven by profit motives, they still have goals, which are to provide the best possible services to their end users. The study of management helps these organisations to achieve their goals.

In order to understand the concept of and significance of planning one has to understand the context of planning. The context lies in the understanding of mission, goals and objectives of the organization. They specify the need for planning and answer the question planning for what.

Some employees are better performers than others, some are more frequently absent than others and some are more concerned about deadline than others. These are the major concerns of commitment. Highly committed employees contribute significantly to the attainment of organisational goals.

Organizational behaviour is relatively a new discipline. Hence, different scholars see it in different perspectives. Some believe that systems should be designed as perfectly as possible and people should be made to respond to the requirements of the system.

Employees differ in terms of their liking for the job. Some may like their job more than others. The differences in feeling towards jobs represent their attitudes towards them. We also use common expressions like X has a positive attitude or a favourable attitude. What do these expressions mean? By and large, they reflect a general orientation of one’s personality and ways of looking at things and people.
