There are a total of 2n input lines and &#8216;n&#8217; output lines. It will generate a binary code that is equivalent to the active High input. As a result, the encoder uses &#8216;n&#8217; bits to encode 2n input lines. In encoders, representing the enable signal is optional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4 to 2 line Encoder:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four inputs (Y0, Y1, Y2, and Y3) and two outputs (A0 and A1) in the 4 to 2 line encoder. In addition, To get the respective binary code on the output side, one input line at a time is set to true in a 4-input line. Further, The 4 to 2 encoder circuit diagram is given in the graphic below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"221\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/J-6xybpEy_4EABGbM4xkb80WEWTnodFS9xvXVF3XUc8sVTDBxq7YFB_xD1b_dDfHyRhURRotDYE53BOviMFLrxAY9G62VcWl0fTuYL79RLPeE4AAPKRwRCpwf2u6GpquWR3wkSiBna5udQrCWg\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Octal to Binary Encoder<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The octal to binary encoder has eight inputs, ranging from Y7 to Y0, and three outputs, A2, A1, and A0. The 8 to 3 encoder is the same as the octal to binary encoder. The following graphic depicts the block diagram of an octal to binary encoder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only one of these eight inputs can be &#8216;1&#8217; at any given time in order to obtain the binary code. The octal to binary encoder&#8217;s truth table is presented below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Truth Table<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/static.javatpoint.com\/tutorial\/digital-electronics\/images\/encoders9.png?w=1170&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Encoder in Digital Electronics - Javatpoint\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The following is the logical expression of the terms A0, A1, and A2:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A<sub>2<\/sub>=Y<sub>4<\/sub>+Y<sub>5<\/sub>+Y<sub>6<\/sub>+Y<sub>7<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A<sub>1<\/sub>=Y<sub>2<\/sub>+Y<sub>3<\/sub>+Y<sub>6<\/sub>+Y<sub>7<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A<sub>0<\/sub>=Y<sub>7<\/sub>+Y<sub>5<\/sub>+Y<sub>3<\/sub>+Y<sub>1<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Circuit Diagram<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following is the logical circuit for the above expressions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"425\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/Dty-EduqIF2C_GPB0gqD4d14l9hzyZ6fFoHRwi8tXtV6vjlTU6HfPibDfOSsvpeadJOfhLi0cCr8TL_BzIf4rPoXtxmouyTygX1xPDjLkZAe19m2kpKFwsK0VCxz8jRHg4cvJPuHHMJjzeBELQ\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Uses of Encoder<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In all digital systems, these systems are relatively simple to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To convert a decimal number to a binary number, encoders are employed. The goal is to complete a binary operation like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Disadvantages&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The disadvantages of a standard encoder are listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When all of the encoder&#8217;s outputs are 0, there is ambiguity. Because when only the least significant input is one or when all inputs are zero, it could be the code matching the inputs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When more than one input is set to high, the encoder generates an output that may or may not be the proper code. If both Y3 and Y6 are &#8216;1&#8217;, for example, the encoder outputs 111. This is neither the comparable code for Y3, when it is &#8216;1&#8217;, nor is it the equivalent code for Y6, when it is &#8216;1&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interested in learning about similar topics?
