The theorem deals with conditional probability. it has many applications in various fields such as medical sciences, mathematical sciences, computer science, machine learning, AI, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conditional probability<\/strong><strong>&#8211;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let A and B are two events in a sample space S and P(B) \u2260 0. then the probability that an event A occurs once B has occurred or the conditional probability of A given B which is defined as-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/0NKuDLGWkGgHJ5c0lthK-LBJ3iokWK3ozjEfZ9neGAsnSh654ETakXHOuByi5hR0x_l-RW-qtsdMt7HM7APrzS5qr_TEflQsSmp_qgiSHW2plMPTZ53HUNvRYZoai4RXd7svjxrP\" width=\"148\" height=\"56\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note-<\/strong> If two events A and B are independent then-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/A3TXdLlHRL1o5aZnpdDqJa0OKGSQkEcvgDyQj6b9nMAN_G3Bu-aWKlmGkQNkV-x124DVD0ycD91as39YidN8_5kOLOerTFs-XcAI-l_MHIINa-e3YRGMhlwgoyAEZBleDqIrnUZM\" width=\"262\" height=\"26\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bayes theorem<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The theorem describes the probability of an event, which is based on prior knowledge conditions related to the events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The formula of Bayes theorem is defined as-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/6HW6tycmtIHKqf6PrGiYLDFHjKSUXNqbG6ozJQ7m9sXZgvpaK7P3me17hM0RoPl9_qWEPBqkKj1DN1ir1m0Y-s1GFQ15ZOelIb_Cv6ZZjHPiAwnewTP0C48xu46Svzcca3vQGiG3\" width=\"180\" height=\"49\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This theorem can also be stated as below-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let and E1 and E2 be mutually exclusive events forming a portion of the sample space S and let E be any event of the sample space such that P(E) \u2260 0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/w2TH5teRgnZSVLG2QTA-hVnRO6w5W2oCJNpGPWMV-_cjnQb1J3SYpoJxEo8wDiUfyG9Z31r7g77pniJxac39qwk_cWIceJ27nF-Xqj4WGb-TtdenzCP_nEb_jrSffj1rXeo8ngD1\" width=\"348\" height=\"60\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s understands the theorem by the following example[Based on false positive and false negative phenomena]-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suppose if a person has COVID-19 like symptoms(fever, dry cough, difficulty breathing), there is a RT-PCR test to check whether the person is infected with the Virus or not, but this test is not always right<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For people who are covid-19 positive, the test says \u201cyes\u201d 80 percent of the time.<\/li><li>For people who don&#8217;t have covid-19, the test says \u201cyes\u201d 10 percent of the time which is false positive.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Now if 1 percent of the population has COVID-19, and the test says yes, then what is the chance that a person really has the disease?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here we need to know the chances of having COVID-19, when the test says \u201cyes\u201d,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By using the formula-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/JJWYI6ckP0sPxkJb4F9erw8ZeeKj5PY-J6CvQFxneIUIy1NG4z3s1_O5BUJHDLGlb1nSyauLFElsKOokNLVWu4ApudSdylZ0ztlYfLvDsCJ-srdeEr0A-9OBUcmYOP8Qw603cyN8\" width=\"425\" height=\"61\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P(COVID-19) = 1%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P(yes\/COVID-19)= 80%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P(yes) = ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now- 1% have the disease and test says \u201cyes\u201d to 80% of them&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And 99% don\u2019t have the disease and test says yes to 10%, so that-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P(yes) = 1%\u00d780%+99%\u00d710%) which gives \u2013 10.7 %<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This shows that 10.7% will get \u201cyes\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now by using the formula-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/2jmjvZ-uFIsvFMnXPl5-MzGlkQdWs-2ieYOoeSiNmqZP8-MGQ9JRpS896hqjr3FLApzxE1YcvUYyvONbliBiIfPg5JqOKJMpS4O3SVIqTc-rzk-A_pHigyqSj5W1oiIl-SeEJu79\" width=\"303\" height=\"60\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So that-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P(COVID-19\/yes) is approximately 7%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example: An urn I contains 3 white and 4 red balls and an urn II contains 5 white and6 red balls. one ball is drawn at random from one of the urns and is found to be white.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Find the probability that it was drawn from urn I.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solution-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E1=&nbsp;
