Foreign investments are of two types- greenfield and brownfield investment. The term &#8220;green-field investment&#8221; gets its name from the fact that the company\u2014usually a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/m\/multinationalcorporation.asp\">multinational corporation<\/a>&nbsp;(MNC)\u2014is launching a venture from the ground up\u2014ploughing and prepping a green field.&nbsp;The greenfield makes investment in a new project of a foreign company whereas brownfield investment makes investment in existing projects of a foreign company.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples of greenfield investment in India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chennai- Salem Expressway<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8216;Noida International Airport. etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Advantages of a Greenfield Investment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Firstly, High level of control over business operations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Secondly, High level of quality control over the manufacturing and sale of products and\/or services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Further, High control over brand image and staffing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moreover, Economies of scale and economies of scope achieves in terms of marketing, research and development, and production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Furthermore, Bypassing trade restrictions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, Creating jobs for the economy where the greenfield investment is taking place<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Disadvantages <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Firstly, An extremely high-risk investment \u2013 a greenfield investment is the riskiest form of foreign direct investment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Secondly, Potentially high market entry cost (barriers to entry)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thirdly, Government regulations that may hamper foreign direct investments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, High fixed costs involved in establishing a greenfield location<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Greenfeild investment status in India<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Accordingly, under Pariyojana\u2019s Phase \u2013 I, the government plans to develop as many as 22 Greenfield Expressways as well as Access Controlled Corridors.  Following are the upcoming 22 Greenfield projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1) a- Delhi-Vadodara Expressway:<\/strong> This corridor is 845 kilometres long. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> b- Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway:<\/strong> This is 446 kilometres long corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> c- Delhi-Faridabad-Sohna:<\/strong> This is a 60 kilometres spur to the Delhi-Mumbai highway Stretch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2) Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway:<\/strong> This is 109 kilometres long. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3) Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway:<\/strong> The 672 kilometres long highway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4) Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway:<\/strong> This 262 kilometres long Expressway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5) Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway:<\/strong> The 63 kilometres long Expressway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6) Ambala-Kotputli Corridor:<\/strong> The 313 kilometres long Ambala \u2013 Kotputli corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7) Chennai-Salem Corridor:<\/strong> This 277 kilometre long flagship corridor from Chennai to Salem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8) Amritsar-Bhatinda-Jamnagar Corridor:<\/strong> The 917 kilometre long section of the 1,224 kilometre long Amritsar-Bhatinda Jamnagar corridor will be developed at a cost of Rs 22,543 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>9) Durg-Raipur-Arang Corridor:<\/strong> This 92 kilometre long corridor will be developed at a cost of Rs 2,689 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>10) Raipur-Vishakhapatnam Corridor:<\/strong> The 465 <a href=\"https:\/\/maratondecali.co\/en\/charities\/\">https:\/\/maratondecali.co\/en\/charities\/<\/a> kilometres long corridor will be developed at a cost of Rs 14,695 crore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greenfield investment  is a type of Foreign direct investment where the foreign investor makes equity investment in new projects of other countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":28,"featured_media":7079,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[27],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7078","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-commerce"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.3.1 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>What is greenfield investment?
