{"id":5271,"date":"2021-09-02T13:43:23","date_gmt":"2021-09-02T08:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goseeko.com\/blog\/?p=5271"},"modified":"2021-10-30T07:40:30","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T07:40:30","slug":"what-is-free-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goseeko.com\/blog\/what-is-free-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Free Energy?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In physics and physical chemistry, free energy refers to the amount of internal energy in a thermodynamic system that is available to do work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore There are different forms of thermodynamic free energy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gibbs_free_energy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gibbs free energy<\/a> is the energy that can be converted into work. in a system with constant temperature and constant pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The equation for the Gibbs free energy is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>G = H &#8211; TS<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>where G is the Gibbs free energy, H is the enthalpy, T is the temperature and S is the entropy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Helmholtz energy is the energy that can be converted into work at constant temperature and constant volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The equation for Helmholtz is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A = U &#8211; TS<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>where A is the Helmholtz  energy, U is the internal energy of the system, T is the absolute temperature (Kelvin) and S is the entropy of the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However Landauer  explains that the energy of an open system where the  particles and energy can be exchanged within the environment and its system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore Landau&#8217;s  equation is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u03a9 = A \u03bcN = U TS \u03bcN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>where N is the number of particles and \u03bc is the chemical potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Variation Free Energy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In information theory, Variation  is a construct useful in Variational Bayesian Methods.
