These are energy absorbing circuits. Normally, the voltage spike occurs due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inductor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inductor<\/a> present in the circuit. Most basic form of snubber circuit is the RC snubber circuit. Below shows the figure of the snubber circuit having resistor and capacitor in series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"507\" height=\"215\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/xtbdJ-RTyojbT8pwqeWCepy7vuPgfvDRGegjnXoRwfE5wwbfzACq4Uy4hK8jMfDBAyfZUH2c0c7AGc7fuxyz7QsSm5CW9ticP1RQyjN_S3OuwFp-_4qjXgOOonndI20PgqlSBOSq=s0\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Designing&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We take our first assumption as the circuit is having negligible impedance. The value of peak current in the circuit will be calculated using the relation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"146\" height=\"139\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/kbu51ZwEaQ-p5LVVbP-V8GTrbVx8G-x_SKNw0Ev4MfuN3PjbZmJiBoWtypXWUkgU2CJSZ8wmb-TW7e6FZe2PPFy6ESicduHGqfuavFQDRgHvMmPBUVx5uBLyrJaJJkk4yXPJNJDX=s0\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V<sub>o<\/sub>= It is the value of Open circuit voltage<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R<sub>s<\/sub> =It is the value of Snubber Resistance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rate of change of voltage w.r.t time is calculated as<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"222\" height=\"86\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/qeVx-X0CH2E2ILkPYSsodQEWTd8ML-GvMxuKgN2KFi0KyGfV2e47VUhfnIS9G8lIdLKboTe32sPgLnSP_OO4LnhDFYq6hdN7Kk89tUO9NVrl7pxQ9VGnmWGcfM5g3c6WUVdrajxP=s0\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From above two equations we can write<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"215\" height=\"83\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/YBFQhKOqFIsNgCLoxh9RJhF4eYuH5IZvG5tkB9LYwHbxLeYL9IjoZvTG_GbQU4oQJ-MSgudtdo0VjkajVG8Yz-FTyNe-gHkykZNIbnHHTp_-QpyG5U2mmFzp6TnOfcAeq2RoxLdW=s0\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Ohm\u2019s Law<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R=V<sub>o<\/sub>\/I<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I = switching current&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V<sub>o<\/sub>= open circuit voltage&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The energy dissipated in the snubber circuit will be equal to the energy dissipated by the capacitor.
