{"id":3322,"date":"2021-07-08T16:08:17","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T10:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goseeko.com\/blog\/?p=3322"},"modified":"2026-01-17T15:16:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T09:46:09","slug":"what-is-buffer-solution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goseeko.com\/blog\/what-is-buffer-solution\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Buffer solution?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A buffer is an aqueous solution that consists of a mixture of a weak acid and its salt (acid buffer) or a weak base with its salt (basic buffer). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When small amount of acid or base is present in solutions , and the  results show a slight change in pH,  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionaly the acid and base are used to prevent any change in a solution pH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buffers solutions  are generally characterized by pH range  through which the pH is maintained a constant by their respective buffer capacity and therefore  pH changes significantly due  to the  the amount of strong acid or base that can be absorbed . <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the pH range of a Buffer solution strongly depends on the chemical properties of the weak acid and weak base used to prepare the buffer (i.e., on KK),<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its buffer capacity depends solely on the concentrations of the species in the buffered solution.&nbsp;The more concentrated the buffer solution, the greater its buffer capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Buffer Solutions\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8U5tP6GL9wM?start=43&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Properties of Buffer solutions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The buffer solutions usually consist of a weak acid and its conjugate base. When H +&nbsp; is present in  a buffer, the protons (H + ) accepts the acid\u2019s conjugate base and absorbs the (H + ) before the solution pH lowers significantly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, when OH &#8211; ions  adds on to the weak acid donates a proton (H + ) to its conjugate base.  Therefore resists any increase in pH before shifting to a new equilibrium point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In biological systems, buffers prevent the fluctuation of pH via processes that produce acid or base by-products to maintain an optimal pH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Each of the conjugate acid-base pairs have a specific pH range by which it works effectively as a buffer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The region of Buffering is about 1pH unit on both the sides of the pK a&nbsp; of the conjugate acid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The midpoint of the buffering region occurs when one half of the acid reacts to dissociation and the proton donor concentration(acid) is equal to the proton acceptor (base).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In chemistry, pH is a measure of the hydrogen ion (H + ) concentration in a solution.
