These associated waves are called matter waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is, the wave\u2013particle duality present in light must also occur in matter. So, starting from the momentum of a photon p<em> <\/em>= <em>h<\/em> \u03bd \/<em>c =<\/em> <em>h\/\u03bb<\/em>, we can generalize this relation to any material particle with non zero rest mass. Each material particle of momentum&nbsp; behaves as a group of waves<mark class=\"annotation-text annotation-text-yoast\" id=\"annotation-text-7e64ca28-4ca7-4bc1-9fe4-42a4bc206855\"><\/mark> whose wavelength <em>\u03bb<\/em> and wave vector &nbsp;are governed by the speed and mass of the particle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/FTE9EoGKm0uF8HSlWN_1nh4BPBwMJyf7F1laZPKLqpKekv9KIuMte63FO3-43RJUGGHlppPiTa8NWM0xTA6y_65aMKWkaa8X3WcbAhTq4rTQsDirTnTgMZOo8V1b3I0hhkbJ7lak\" width=\"227\" height=\"75\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wave has wavelength\u00a0 \u03bb here h is Planck&#8217;s constant and p is the momentum of the moving particle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Louis de Broglie&#039;s Matter Waves | Physics4Students\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vx2l65baGTY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Properties<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As already discussed, the wave associated with matter in motion is Matter wave. Wavelength is \u03bb=h\/p.<\/li><li>These are localized waves, not a progressive<mark class=\"annotation-text annotation-text-yoast\" id=\"annotation-text-7dace00f-e835-4c18-85d6-27ad7b9a7b5d\"><\/mark>.<\/li><li>This is a group of waves also known as a wave packet. These wave packet are form due to the superposition of two or more progressive waves. Thus these are not single waves at all.<\/li><li>As these represent the direction of propagation of matter, So we also call it with the name of pilot wave.<\/li><li>The speed of matter wave depends on the mass of the particle. We know electromagnetic wave moves with the speed of light but this case is not valid for matter wave. Matter waves do not have constant speed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>V<sub>g<\/sub> x V<sub>p<\/sub>= c<sup>2<\/sup> shows that V<sub>p<\/sub>, phase velocity of matter wave is greater than velocity of light. This shows that these are not physical waves.<\/li><li>As mass is inversely proportional to the wavelength. So for lighter particles, the De-Broglie wavelength is greater.<\/li><li>As velocity is inversely proportional to the wavelength. So for faster particle moves, the smaller is its De-Broglie wavelength.<\/li><li>The De-Broglie wavelength of a particle is independent of the charge or nature of the particle.<\/li><li>Only charged particles can produce the electromagnetic wave.
