{"id":1394,"date":"2021-05-31T18:55:11","date_gmt":"2021-05-31T13:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goseeko.com\/blog\/?p=1394"},"modified":"2021-10-30T07:40:41","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T07:40:41","slug":"what-is-interference-and-its-types","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goseeko.com\/blog\/what-is-interference-and-its-types\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Interference and its types?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Definition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interference of waves occurs when two or more waves overlap at a given point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Type of Interference&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The interference of light waves can be divided into the following two categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Constructive Interference:<\/strong> In case of Constructive interference the crest of one wave falls on the crest of another wave in such a way that the amplitude becomes maximum. These waves are in phase with each other and have the same displacement too.<\/li><li><strong>Destructive Interference:<\/strong> In case of destructive interference, the crest of one wave falls on the trough of another wave in such a way that the amplitude becomes&nbsp; minimum. These waves are out of phase with each other and have different displacements.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"602\" height=\"247\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.goseeko.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-13.png?resize=602%2C247&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1986\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Figure :<\/strong> <strong>Constructive and Destructive Interference<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We know that the superposition of two mechanical waves can be constructive or destructive. As i explained in case of constructive interference, the amplitude of the resultant wave at a given time or position is greater than that of either individual wave&nbsp; whereas&nbsp; in case of destructive interference, the resultant amplitude at a given time or position is less than that of either individual wave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conditions of Interference&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sustained interference pattern simply means the position of maximum and minimum intensity regions remains constant with time. To obtain sustained interference, the following conditions are required:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The sources must be coherent in nature.\u00a0<\/li><li>The two light sources must emit continuous waves of the same wavelength and have the same period.<\/li><li>The distance between the two sources of light should be small to obtain fringes separated by a certain distance so that we can distinguish them.<\/li><li>The sources should be monochromatic (means single wavelength).<\/li><li>The two light sources must emit waves in nearly the same direction.<\/li><li>The light source should be a point source.<\/li><li>The distance between the two sources and the screen must be large.
